When Pop Went Epic tells the tale of the concept album, one of those ideas that is often mocked, but also produced some of the best albums ever created.
Of course, the obvious albums are here such as Tommy and The Wall (two of my favourite records) as well as albums that you might not have thought of as concepts such as Pet Sounds and It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back. Everything from Yes to Lady Gaga is included here – the only thing missing seems to be the Seattle sound of Queensryche who created the epic Operation : Mindcrime and the brilliance of Dream Theater’s Metropolis II : Scenes From A Memory. It seems churlish to diss the show for missing these as it is a treat to see some rare Tommy footage and some amusing scenes of Rick Wakeman putting on a show… on ice!
