Fvck off Cancer, you massive twat.
Another week, another great actor lost. John Hurt was surely one of Britain’s top performers, seemingly able to take on any part, no matter how challenging and shine like the star that he was.
My first memory of Hurt is watching the Alien pop out of him and run away, a scene of absolute horror that still holds up years later. Then I saw him in The Elephant Man and when I became old enough for Orwell, his Winston in 1984 was incredible. More recently he gave his voice to Charlie Countryman and Swan Lake 3D.
Then there was his TV work in Doctor Who in recent years and a show I remember warmly from my youth The Storyteller from the mind of Jim Henson. Amazing.
Brighton Rock, Crime And Punishment, Harry Potter, Watership Down, Even Cowgirls Get The Blues, Scandal, The Black Cauldron, The Plague Dogs, The Lord Of The Rings, Midnight Express – How is THAT for a resume?
