When I was younger, my favourite bands releasing a single was a massive thing. From Duran Duran to The Smiths to waiting outside HMV for the new Manic Street Preachers, it was a life affirming moment. In 2021, you don’t get the three month wait, the pre-release hype and front page news, it just arrives. That doesn’t mean it is any less exciting though, I was at work when Remember This dropped at 3AM and I resisted listening until I finished at 7, but it was pre-loaded on my Spotify and hitting play after my shopping was EPIC.
Remember This is a glorious pop thrill with a killer chorus. “Used to pray for a moment just like this / There’s a fire in your eyes I can’t resist” is a beautiful line that makes me want to write to a girl right now, name deleted, obvs, and at the same time I can imagine this being a highlight live as we all raise our hands and sing along with the killer hook.
It is a pinch of S.O.S. and a dash of Strangers, but mostly it is its own animal, another glorious piece of pop from the best band on the planet. Ball’s in your court now, MSP!
