Poem – Is This The One? (No)

I saw her dancing by herself next to the glitter machine
Grooving to her own tune not the cliche rock tune playing.
Took another sip of my too expensive drink
Blocked out the outside world, forget its dark decaying.

I was transfixed, she was everything
I knew we should be friends.
I staggered through the crowd
I hoped this was not how the story ends.

I sashed up and said hello
More confident than ever.
She leaned in, whispered
“This could never work, I repeat, never.”
