it is very rare that someone manages to straddle the line between brilliant comedy and sublime songwriting. Neil Innes was one such icon.
He is there in all of Monty Python’s finest works, Rutland Weekend Television and, of course, The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. For me, his finest work was with The Rutles, a perfect Beatles pastiche both hilarious, with their film All You Need Is Cash and bursting with excellent songs on the essential soundtrack album, that gives you a crash course in Beatles mythology with love and care from one of Britains great auteurs.
Godspeed, Ron Nasty! 🤍
