With Wrestlemania 29 just one week away, thought it was a good time to look back on some of the highlights from the Showcase Of The Immortals.
There are obvious superstars just jump into your mind when you think of Wrestlemania, it is after all the biggest event of them all, when long time rivalries are finally put to bed, in the most insane ways possible and that brings us to the meeting of Edge and Mick Foley at Wrestlemania 22 in what ranks as one of the best and certainly the bloodiest Wrestlemania matches of them all.
Foley had previously been referee for a Edge/Cena confrontation and Edge was blaming him for the fact that the Rated R Superstar lost his title. He wanted revenge and what better revenge in the WWE world than with a Hardcore match, anything goes, falls count anywhere, what Jim Ross would no doubt describe as a Slobberknocker.
The match was stunning with Foley taking an early beating until Edge went for the spear and discovered that Mick was wearing barbed wire which gave him the upper hand and soon the blood began to flow. Foley was smashed into the stairs, Edge had wire dug into his face, the blood was spilling everywhere. Then, there was a table, oh yes.
Lita poured lighter fluid onto the table and set it alight and Edge added a full stop by spearing Foley straight through the burning table. Epic.
In the new PG era, it seems unlikely that we will see this type of match again but grab the DVD as this is a great great battle between two of the best.
Oh young man you are awake,
Need a glass of water?
Here you are, no need to worry.
You might wonder what you’re doing here
We are just monitoring you
It is all for your own good
We are here to save you.
Seems you have been watching some horrific films
Made obviously by the sick and depraved
How could a normal man create such terrors?
We have never seen these blots on human decency of course
But we can tell how bad they are.
We read the Mail and post on bulletin boards
We are experts on the twisted underground.
Oh you are wondering where your hands are?
Well we had to remove them.
Cannot have you picking up those horror comics and magazines,
Fangoria and other pornographies.
Turning pages and revealing undead creatures,
Devilish zombies and unholy witches.
No we could not have you grabbing those,
It is for your own good.
Don’t try to scream, young man,
We’ve sewn you up with finest silken thread.
We are not against free speech of course
We just cannot allow the views of those you follow,
Six? Roth? Zombie? Manson? Even Bieber has started spouting filthy words
He should come down to our local church
All for his own good of course,
We are here to save all.
Now silenced you can be healed
Without any of that filthy opinion spilling from your acid tongue.
Your illness can soon be washed away,
You just need to look away.
There’s only one way to ensure that.
Do you know what hydrochloric acid can do to your eyes?
It can clean them of all that dirty blasphemy they’ve seen
Stop you viewing the wrong things
No more staring at the horrors
No more wallowing in the grime.
This wont take long.
It’s all for the best
I know what is best
We know what is best.
Right, we shall leave you
At last you are saved.
No need to thank us
We live for such things.
We shall celebrate your salvation
With a cold pure water
And a treat of ice cream.
Vanilla, of course,
The safest of all flavours.
Eli Roth’s latest horror epic is almost upon us and at Wondercon, a new clip of Hemlock Grove was unveiled showing a werewolf transformation that is both stunning and disturbing. The sound alone is enough to give you the creeps but once those eyeballs fall out, we are in a whole hole of trouble!
In Hemlock Grove, the mystery of 17 year old Brooke Bluebell’s murder brings out the secrets of the town, who is responsible or indeed what is responsible? If Roth is involved, you know that it’s not gonna be an easy ride but certainly one worth taking.
Hemlock Grove, the entire series, arrives on Netflix on April 19th. See you behind the sofa.
